UPDATE WINTER 2008/2009: SNOW ON MARS / WATER ON THE MOON

Hi Everybody,

Last September 'Phoenix' saw snow at the Martian pole, and ancient rocks from the moon yielded evidence of water from 3 billion years ago. I've started to add these developments and integrate them into the site - still needs alot of work though, so, more soon, ...

Snow on Mars: http://www.theseventhearth.com/MM_21.htm
Water on the Moon: http://www.theseventhearth.com/luna_10.htm

UPDATE JULY 2008 / 'LUNACY' / GIANT IMPACT

lunacy

noun ( pl. -cies)

the state of being a lunatic; insanity (not in technical use) : it has been suggested that originality demands a degree of lunacy.

ORIGIN mid 16th cent.(originally referring to insanity of an intermittent kind attributed to changes of the moon): from lunatic + -acy .

impact
noun
the effect or influence of one person, thing, or action, on another.

Hi everybody,

For a minute there I thought I was going crazy. I thought it was going to be a full year between updates! phew! ( and this time the delay in updating was because I decided that the site needed to be re-designed ). Anyway, the Lunar section has started;

LUNA: http://www.theseventhearth.com/luna.htm

The guy on the index page is 'Anaxagoras', the first Greek thinker to propose that the Moon was a solid, Earth-like body, or 'stone-star'. The Luna section will explore the recent 'Giant Impact' theory of the Moon's origin and, like the other sections, it begins with a general overview of the history of Moon theories. I've left it 'to be continued' on the seventh page, but very soon I will be tying it in with the other sections. Anybody who is familiar with the site will be aware of the way the sections interconnect - 'Mars Mission' picks up where 'Global Warming' left off and so on and so on. Those of you who aren't familiar with the site, 'About This Site' will give you all the background;

http://www.theseventhearth.com/about.html

I usually update the support sites at the same time as the main site,

E7; http:www.e7.ie

Earth7Media; earth7media.com

but this time I want to do a more extensive overhaul on them, and on the World Indexes, so they'll come separately, but soon ( at the moment they date from my research as it was last October ).

So, I hope the new look to the site grabs your eye and that you find something of interest in the new sections. Thanks for taking the time,

Alan Lambert

UPDATE MAY 2006 / OCTOBER 2007 – ’THE YEAR THAT WAS IN IT’

NEW MARTIAN ERAS / GLOBAL WARMING / NEW EARTHS / NEW SYSTEM / Support Sites / Responses and Some Reflections
__________________________________________________

Hi Everyone,
As you can see it's over a year since I've updated - due to several unforeseen factors: The re-classification of the 'items' of the Solar-System, the discovery of the closest thing yet to a new Earth, a variety of natural disasters, and, the most delaying factor of all, the loss of my laptop with no backup copies of anything on it, including all my research. But despite all that, here's what's new.

NEW SECTIONS: Mars Mission / Global Warming
UPDATED SECTIONS: The Super Earths / The Invisible Earths / About This Site
SUPPORT SITES: E7 / Earth7media

Mars Mission: http://www.theseventhearth.com/MM.htm
This section correlates the new geology of Mars, as revised by the information sent back from the recent batch of rovers and landers, to the premise of the site and integrates it with the earlier sections.

Global Warming: http://www.theseventhearth.com/global_warming.htm
This section relates this revised Martian history to the present Earth climate change and projected global warming scenarios.

The Super Earths: http://www.theseventhearth.com/40a-gliese.htm
This section explores the recent extra-solar observations and planet formation theories, and includes Gliese 581, the most Earth-like extra-solar planet so far found.

The Invisible Earths: http://www.theseventhearth.com/201_sedna.htm
This section now includes many of the new found objects, beyond Pluto, and the re-classification of the Solar System from last year.

About This Site: http://www.theseventhearth.com/about.html
This section is revised to define the site and outline my approach to it more clearly. It had a curious time on MySpace discussion forums, with some inevitably and predictably visceral responses, but in many ways it stood it's ground. The need to define it more specifically, and in what way to do so, became apparent from the forums. In response to those responses I have also
built two more sites;

'E7': http://www.e7.ie
'E7media': http://www.earth7media.com
These are support sites which begin to break the work up into more manageable bites. E7 is the bibliography and appendix website which will contain all my reserach and references and links to contemporary work in these fields. Earth7media is a site for the more reflective and fantasy based aspects of the concept.

I've quoted some of the discussion forum conversations below, but before them I've quoted some ideas that Douglas Adams expressed in the fourth Hitch-Hiker's book, which I think perfectly capture a fundamental dichotomy in what I am doing with my website.

Douglas Adams: 'So long, and thanks for all the fish' 1984

Wonko The Sane: 'I'm a scientist and I know what constitutes proof. But the reason I call myself by my childhood name is to remind myself that a scientist must also be absolutely like a child. If he sees a thing, he must say that he sees it, whether it was what he thought he was going to see or not. See first, think later, then test. But always see first. Otherwise you will only see what
you were expecting. Most scientists forget that. … The other reason I call myself Wonko The Sane is so that people will think I am a fool. That allows me to say what I see when I see it. You can't possibly be a scientist if you mind people thinking that you're a fool.

I don't want to say that thinking outside the box is a bad thing, but you have to pay homage to … the likes of Alfred Wegener, S J Gould, Ewing, Einstein, Pasteur, etc. … It is really frustrating when pseudoscience comes along and declares a theory without ever putting it through rigorous scientific experimentation. ( see my definition in 'About This Site' in relation to pseudoscience )

RAY: Jul 20, 2006 9:07 Am/11:43 PM
( Ray Willcox is a Professional 'hardrock' Geologist, Structural Geologist and Exploration Geochemist from Spokane, Washington. U.S. ( Graduate of the University Of Texas at El Paso )

When I reflect on this ( above ), every one of those respected scientists thought 'outside the box.' And some of them were derided (i.e. dissed) and constantly ridiculed for doing so. … The first published advocate of continental drift paid a higher price, dying ( alone on an ice field, I believe
) before his theories were accepted. ... Keep rocking the boat. Right or wrong, it doesn't hurt to think creatively ...

If you are even partially correct, and if you live long enough, you will be honored by intense ridicule, violent opposition, and, finally, "Duh! That's patently obvious to the most casual observer," mumbled by munchkins, minions, and mindless cretins, all groping for idiosyncrasy.

Non illegitimi carborundrum!

WIKIPEDIA EDITORS DISCUSSION:

MICHAELBUSCH: April 8, 2007 6:02 PM

Given how many times this article has been deleted and reposted, should it be protected against recreation?

QUARL: April 12, 2007 7:26 AM

Hi Michaelbusch, thanks for your concern; actually when I said it had been deleted 6 times before it was an unsuccessful attempt at humour, referring to the thesis of the subject of the article that everything that happens on Earth has happened six times already.

At least they get what I'm talking about.

I hope you'll find something interesting or thought provoking in the new sections of The Seventh Earth. Thanks for reading.

UPDATE MAY 2006 / 'ORIGINS': THE INFLUENCE OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC

Hi everyone, welcome back to The Seventh Earth.

In the last update, from March, the main new addition was 'The Super-Earths', which deals primarily with the recent jump in extrasolar planetary observation. http://www.theseventhearth.com/index4.htm

There was also some adjusted layout, a new introduction, and the 'World Indexes'. The 'World Indexes' are the start of a mapping of the planet's independent creative activity, beginning with electronic music. As I mentioned at the time, these indexes are not directly related to the theoretical content of the rest of the site.
http://www.theseventhearth.com/Map_europe_index.html

In this update the main new addition is the section 'Origins'. I decided to compile this section to trace more specifically how this project evolved from my peripheral involvement with electronic music and independent film-making, centering on the development of independent electronic music in Ireland, via 'D1 Recordings', and the influence of Detroit techno from 'Underground
Resistance' and 'Drexciya'. This section will hopefully explain more about the connection between the concept of The Seventh Earth and the World Indexes. http://www.theseventhearth.com/Origins_intro.htm

I have also added some new menu sections to allow for the new sections which will be required in future editions. I've listed them here because they have links to the other sections of the site to which they will relate and which suggested the need for them in the first place. I'm hoping this will keep the potential 'sprawling' content of this site under more control for the reader. As I've mentioned before, this site will probably always be a work in progress, and as my research progresses more topics emerge that need to be addressed and so the site continues to expand. The new menu sections I have added are;

1.MARS MISSION: This section will correlate the new geology of Mars with the hypothesis of this website. Mars is being constantly revised by the information coming back from the new generation of Mars landers. My work with Mars so far is based on the 'Mola Maps' and the original Viking landing's 'Crater Counts', so this section will develop this in more detail ( The 'Mola Maps' and 'Crater Counts' I have attached as jpgs because they look cool ).

2.LUNA: This will deal with how the recent 'Giant Impact Theory' of the moon's origin relates to this website's hypothesis.

3.SOL: This section will deal with our star as the origin of it all.

NOTE: It is important to read the 'Origins' section in conjunction with the site's introduction, so I have also listed 'About This Site' below.

1. ORIGINS: D1/UR/DREXCIYA http://www.theseventhearth.com/Origins_intro.htm
2. ABOUT THIS SITE http://www.theseventhearth.com/about.html
3. NEW MENU SECTIONS: SOL/LUNA/MARS MISSION
http://www.theseventhearth.com/index.htm
4. Attachments: 1. Mola Maps. 2. Crater Count.

So, I hope you continue to find the site interesting and I look forward to any comments or feedback.
Thanks for taking the time,

UPDATE MARCH 2006 / THE SUPER EARTHS

Hi everyone,
Sorry about the tardiness of this update. I think in the last update from Aprilof last year I said the updates would probably be quarterly but between one thing and another I missed out a few seasons - learning new software, the day job, the usual - but this year I should be able to update it more regularly.

Whats new in this edition;

1. THE SUPER EARTHS
2. LAYOUT
3. INTRODUCTION
4. BIBLIOGRAPHY
5. WORLD INDEXES
6. LINKS
__________________________________________________________

1. THE SUPER EARTHS
The main new section is The Super Earths, which deals primarily with the recent jump in extrasolar planet observations. This section also starts a more thorough cross referencing between the other sections of the site, which I hope will start to pull together the overall scope of the concept. The Super Earths: http://www.theseventhearth.com/index4.htm
_________________________________________________________

2. LAYOUT
The overall look and layout of the site Ive updated to allow for the developing sections. I should also credit the original site design by my brother John (http://www.johnlambertdesign.com ) which I've used as a template.
_________________________________________________________

3. INTRODUCTION
I've also written an introduction which outlines more in terms of what the site actually is and where it comes from. The earlier versions got some very varied interpretations ranging from satire to fantasy to crackpot theorist, although I should say that those versions were rudimentary enough that it was also finding its way as a work in progress, and to an extent still is. The introduction to this edition is in the section About This Site:http://www.theseventhearth.com/about.html
________________________________________________________

4. BIBLIOGRAPHY
Some previous comments on the site also noted the absence of any reference to further reading. Ive started the bibliography but its small enough as itstands because, well, you know the way it is with the internet, you can find almost anything but trying to find your way back to where you started is a different matter, so the first sections I developed dont have references. The new bibliography is just what relates to the new section but I will be adding to it from here on.

Apart from the internet the main source of reading is actually magazines like Scientific American or National Geographic, rather than textbooks, as I find new research makes its way into periodicals quicker than into textbooks and I prefer to keep the site as contemporary as possible. Having said that,The Visible Earths is not difficult to find further reading on as its built on material that one could find in any pocket geography book. The start of the bibliography and website links is in the section Notes:http://www.theseventhearth.com/423-notes.htm
________________________________________________________

5. WORLD INDEXES
Ive also started the World Indexes. These do not relate directly to the restof the site. They are a way of building a global database of independent artists - musicians, film-makers etc. - which can create a network by which theconcept of The Seventh Earth may spread, while simultaneously drawing creative responses as well as technical or scientific. Creative thinking is a big partof the development of the site. You will see in the introduction in About This Site the role that I think lateral thinking plays in all of this.World Indexes: http://www.theseventhearth.com/Map_europe_index.html

23. Notes: http://www.theseventhearth.com/423-notes.htm

You will see that much of the site is still under construction, but I've tried to leave as few dead ends as possible by the cross referencing. I think you can actually start the site from anywhere.

So, I hope you find it interesting and I look forward to any comments or feedback.
Thanks for taking the time,
